Many people are experiencing stress because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and therapy can be the answer to this situation. We have never had to contend with this particular disease before, so it is causing some people to be extremely fearful. No one is immune to the difficulties that COVID-19 is creating these days. Dr. Piper can help you cope with a pandemic through therapy.

In addition to the fears and anxieties that people are experiencing, the suggestions for how we can remain safe from the disease are also contributing to our emotional problems. For example, the advice to be socially distant from other people is causing many of us to feel isolated, and isolation increases the stress and anxiety that we are experiencing.

The result of social isolation can be the following:

  • An increase in the use of alcohol or drugs.
  • A worsening of any pre-existing mental health conditions.
  • A worsening of pre-existing health conditions.
  • Difficulties concentrating.
  • Difficulties sleeping.
  • Eating too much or too little.
  • Worrying about financial stresses or a loved one’s health.

Children also experience anxiety, and this may manifest itself in several ways. For example, some kids begin to wet the bed, cry incessantly or appear to be very worried or sad.

At South Orange County Counseling, we are aware that you are suffering through a difficult time right now. You are concerned about your own health, but you would also like to protect the health of the people around you. For that reason, we understand if you are reluctant to come into our office for the therapy that you need.

If you are going to cope with a pandemic through therapy, you need to be able to visit Dr. Walsh in her office, but this may be too frightening for you. To be able to help you cope with a pandemic through therapy, we will treat you over the phone or on a video platform.

Pre-Existing Conditions

If you have a pre-existing mental health condition, it may be especially important for you to continue to attend your counseling sessions. If you fit this description, it may be even more difficult for you to live through an emergency if one presents itself.

Mental health conditions can make it so that you cannot adequately communicate with the people around you; they also make it hard for you to function throughout the day. Your symptoms may even be worsening. If this is what is happening, it is imperative that you contact us for a continuation of your therapy.

You may not have a pre-existing condition, but you are noticing that you are having trouble coping during the pandemic. If your thoughts and feelings have been getting in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row, you are a candidate for counseling with Dr. Walsh at South Orange County Counseling.
